026 AWUS83 KDMX 211625 RWSDMX IAZ004>007-015>017-023>028-033>039-044>050-057>062-070>075-081>086- 092>097-220030- Weather Summary for Iowa National Weather Service Des Moines IA 1025 AM CST Fri Jan 21 2022 Bitterly cold temperatures were in place across Iowa overnight with overnight low temperatures generally in the 5 below to 20 below range. Several locations did reach the 20 below to 22 below range from Ames to Marshalltown, Webster City, Hampton and Mason City. Temperatures by 10 am had recovered and were near 10 above over western Iowa while readings lingered in the single digits below zero over parts of north central and northeast Iowa. the wind was from the south at 5 to 15 mph, which did keep wind chill values below zero. Highs today will recover to the lower teens northeast to the mid 20s to lower 30s in the far west as clouds increase ahead of a minor weather system. Light snow is possible overnight with any accumulations focused over the north and east and generally under an inch. A stronger clipper system will dive southeast later Saturday afternoon and quickly move across central Iowa, bringing a quick couple of inches of snow to the northeast areas of the state Saturday evening into the overnight. Roads will become snow covered in those areas and some travel impacts are anticipated. Lows Saturday night will drop to near zero in the far north with teens to lower 20s in the south. Another chance of light snow will graze northeast Iowa Sunday night, but only a dusting is anticipated. Early next week temperatures will moderate to the 20s to lower 40s Monday, but another Arctic blast arrives Monday night with highs back to the single digits and teens with overnight lows hitting 10 to 20 below over a large area of the state by Wednesday morning. $$
