Did Last Week's Precip Help?

Posted: 02 Aug 2021 04:20 AM

Much needed rainfall fell Friday evening into Saturday morning with the heaviest totals found over southern Iowa. The featured map presents NOAA MRMS precipitation percent of average for the last week, which besides the rainfall event of the weekend, included a couple of other more scattered events during the week. Areas shaded in brown would indicate a total below climatological average and green above. The most recent US Drought Monitor analysis is included as well. It is amazing how almost all of the D2 level drought area missed out on the above average precipitation totals. A big chunk of eastern Iowa missed out altogether as well. The forecast for this week is looks very dry along with increasing temperatures into next weekend.
