The IEM processes these and generates infographics like the featured chart. The gauge arrows present the daily high and low temperature within the context of the average and record values for the date. The right hand side presents various precipitation accumulations. For Des Moines, yesterday was a hot one and without precipitation, so the year to date and even monthly below average values did not improve.
