2010s vs 2000s

It is kind of fun that we now have a completed decade to look back upon! The featured map does
just that comparing the average temperature between the past two decades. Positive values indicate
that the 2010s were warmer for that location according to unofficial IEM calculated data. In general,
the state is a mixed bag result for this comparison. There are more positive values over southern
Iowa and the Urban Heat Island of Des Moines likely is helping its value be the largest positive one
for the state. One may look at the plotted values and think those are small numbers, but extrapolated
out over a century and they very large and meaningful. Of course, there has been and will be
variation going forward and you can generate this plot for other decades of your choice for
comparison.
