Putting a floor in

26 Jun 2009 06:15 AM
The featured graph is a time series of temperature and dew point from Des Moines for the month of June. June started off on the cool side thanks in part to a dry northerly wind that kept dew points mostly in the 50s. Around the 17th of June, the rich moisture returned and so has the warmer weather. Higher dew points act to put a floor in on how low temperatures can get during the night and as dew points have increased, so has the temperatures.

Moisture finally returns

17 Jun 2009 06:09 AM
Last week, the plight of Esterville was featured. The lack of southerly winds had left them with a very cool start to June. Finally, the weather pattern has changed and a recent stretch of southeasterly winds have helped to boost dew points into the low 60s. Air temperatures are on the rise as well with highs expected in the mid to upper 80s. Welcome summer!
