30 Day Percent of Average

Posted: 16 May 2022 05:30 AM

The featured map presents NOAA MRMS precipitation totals over the past 30 days expressed as a percentage of average, where average is computed from a grid analysis of NCEI 1991-2020 climatology. The most recent US Drought Monitor analyses is overlain as well. A stripe from SW to NE Iowa has seen the most rainfall over this period with some isolated locations double average during this time. Hoping for more rainfall this time of year is always problematic as most farmers got a very late start to the spring planting season due to cold temperatures. There are chances of rain in the forecast, but forecast totals are not that impressive for what should be a wet time of year already.
