Transition to Southerly

Posted: 06 May 2022 05:34 AM

While we have kept the chilly temperatures of April into May, we have thankfully mostly gotten rid of the horribly windy conditions that plagued the previous month. On average, April is our windiest month of the year as shown by the featured plot of monthly averages for Ames. A vector averaged wind direction is presented as well, which tells an interesting story of the annual wind direction cycle. The month of May represents the transition from northerlies to more southerlies, which helps May usher in much warmer temperatures and higher humidity levels as such air masses from our south are transported into the state.
