April Average Temps

Posted: 04 May 2022 05:29 AM

Yesterday's daily feature denoted the slow progress with corn planting this season over much of the corn belt. Today's featured map explains most of the reason why as it has been too cold and now recently too wet to plant. The featured map presents IEM estimated climate district ranks for average temperature during April. Any value over 120 would indicate a top ten coldest with a number of districts shown in the top five or even higher. Sadly, the cold weather of April has persisted into May with the first few days off to a very chilly start. The good news is that much warmer weather is expected by next week, but questions remain as to how dry it will be to allow farmers to get into the field. At this point, everyone needs more warmth and we will hope for enough dry periods to allow field operations to occur.
