The first day of the spring season on Sunday did not disappoint with very warm temperatures some 20+ degrees above average. This is the preferred time of year for such large positive beats above average as shown by the featured chart. The chart presents the daily frequency of having the high or low temperature between +20 and +60 degrees above average. The month of March is clearly the preferred time of year for these warm of departures. The reason being that the climatological record is being pulled in opposite directions by dates that had snow cover, which really suppress temps and by dates without and ever increasing solar insolation and low humidities allowing for rapid warm-ups. Such combinations are more rare during other months of the year and the climatological range during the summer months is severely limited by elevated humidity levels.
