Large Snowfall Departure Differences

Posted: 18 Mar 2022 05:30 AM

It is always a good time to check in on season to date snowfall departures. The featured map does as such using the NWS CLImate reporting sites. Positive departures (more snowfall than average) are shown in blue and negative (less snowfall than average) departures in red. There's a considerable gradient shown over Iowa with the Des Moines area not too far from average, but Dubuque and especially Sioux City well below average. A very wet storm system is impacting Iowa this Friday, but the location of any snowfall remains in doubt as temperatures are closely hovering near freezing.
