Winter Low Trend

Posted: 10 Mar 2022 05:20 AM

With the meteorological winter season wrapped up early last week, it is good to check in on how it compared with previous winters. The featured chart presents the yearly average winter season low temperature for Des Moines. The year plotted represents the year of the December included in the three month period. A simple trend line is fitted for the data back to 1951, and while the trend line shows warming, the r-squared value is nothing to get very excited about. It is interesting to see the last two winters come in below the long term trend line, but whose values are above most winters from the first 30 years plotted.
