Days Since Last SVR Warning

Posted: 02 Mar 2021 05:33 AM

Somehow we have made it to the start of meteorological spring season and while winter storms are still common during the first half of spring, chances for severe thunderstorms increase daily as temperatures warm and humidity levels increase. The featured map presents the number of days since the last Severe Thunderstorm Warning by NWS Forecast Office. The chart nicely delineates those areas that have seen severe spring time thunderstorms with those that have not. It has been over 3 to 5 months since we've had such a warning in Iowa. This long lull is one of the reasons why we have a "severe weather awareness" week, which comes in three weeks for Iowa.
