Widespread Half Inch Plus

Posted: 26 Oct 2021 05:32 AM

The rainfall this past Sunday was some of the most significant and widespread seen this year. The featured chart presents a few measures of precipitation effectiveness based on a grid analysis maintained by the IEM. The areal percentage of Iowa receiving at least a half an inch is computed along with the percentage of Iowa that had received less than a half an inch over the preceding seven days. The top panels show the areal coverage over Iowa overall and over the part that had drier than a half of an inch over the previous seven days. The bottom shows the relative percentage for the rain event and absolute percentage for the dry area. The recent blue bar shows the Sunday rain coming in the top of the rankings for both those metrics.
