The rainfall totals have piled up over some portions of the state this August. The featured chart presents monthly precipitation total records for Elma, Iowa (north of Waterloo in Howard County). The preliminary data 2021 total for August beats all previous Augusts and all months for that matter on record for the site since 1907. Additionally, a site with a shorter period of record (Ionia since 2002) is currently over twenty inches for the month! The Ionia site is a bit to the east and south of the Elma site. This general area has been pounded by recent rains and has ongoing areal and river flooding ongoing.
