June Extremes

Posted: 23 Jun 2021 05:34 AM

It was only late last week when Iowa was baking in 100 degree heat over much of the state. Fast forward to Tuesday morning (yesterday) with record low temperatures set in the 40s. An illustration of the roller coaster of temperatures is provided by the featured chart showing hourly temperature percentiles this month for Waterloo. After the first few days, much of the month has been at the upper range of values provides by climatology. The recent slide to near the bottom of the range is brief as the summertime heat and humidity has returned along with daily chances of precipitation and storms, which is exactly what we need. It is now just a matter if all parts of the state will get rainfall or if some parts will continue to be left out.
