Late May Cold
Posted: 31 May 2021 05:44 AM
The featured table presents hourly temperature reports from Cedar Rapids last Friday with the date of
having as cold a temperature at that hour between the dates of 21 May and 30 June. The afternoon
temperatures were the coldest on record for that period with data back to the early 1970s. This plot
is a pick of cherry picking as there was a cold May 20th not too many years ago, but still having
temperatures in the 40s during the afternoon hours during late May is rather extreme. The forecast
thankfully has warmer temperatures in store, but for the dry half of the state, not much in the way of
precipitation. We finish off May today and have experienced a remarkable start to the growing
season.
