Two Weeks Early for 70+

Posted: 10 Mar 2021 05:34 AM

Temperatures soared again on Tuesday with a number of locations hitting record highs for the date. It was the first day this year at or above 70 degrees for Des Moines and the featured chart presents the climatology of hitting the first 70+ degree temperature of the year for the site. The average date is two weeks later than 9 March, so we are doing well this year! The chart also shows the number of 70+ degree days each year and does not appear to show much correlation between the first date and the number of days. We may eek out another 70 degree day on Wednesday before more seasonal temperatures return on Thursday.
