Warmest This Year

Posted: 24 Feb 2021 05:29 AM

Temperatures warmed nicely on Tuesday helping to melt away a considerable amount of the snow pack that has recently accumulated. For some parts of Iowa, temperatures yesterday were the warmest seen so far this calendar year. The featured map presents the difference between the warmest temperature on Tuesday vs that of the year to date period based on hourly NCEP RTMA data. The map only shows the positive areas meaning those in white had previously had a warmer temperature than what was felt on Tuesday. For Iowa, temperatures over the southeastern half of the state were the warmest so far. The map shows some even larger positive departures with some areas to Iowa's south with over 15 degrees warmer value on Tuesday than for any previous date this year. The near term forecast has a bit of a return to reality for this time of year with temperatures closer to average.
