Cedar Rapids 100+ hours below 0

Posted: 17 Feb 2021 05:45 AM

After a very frigid start to Tuesday morning, temperatures did warm to values above zero Fahrenheit for the first time in a number of days for many locations in the state. Cedar Rapids stopped the streak lasting over 100 consecutive hours below zero. The featured chart presents such streaks below zero for the site based on the hourly temperature data available. The 2021 stretch is the longest since a very cold period back in 1996. It is hard to know for sure what's the longest such streak on record given the shorter period of available hourly daily. The daily data records go much further back and, of course, if the daily high temperature is below zero, the hourly data would have followed if it existed.
