Thankful for Storage

Posted: 26 Nov 2020 05:29 AM

Happy Thanksgiving! In honor of today, the project gives thanks for computer data storage advances and inexpensive prices that current multi-terabyte hard drives cost. When the project started 20 years ago, hard drive sizes were generally well below 128 GB. Nowadays, you can get a 12 TB drive for a few hundred dollars. Such expansive storage options allow the IEM to aggressively archive lots of data each day and accumulate a 60+ TB total size as shown by the featured chart. The featured chart only covers one portion of the IEM website archive. In all, it totals around 200 TB.
