The featured chart summarizes the frequency of day to day change in high temperature by month for Ames. Just because daily climatology is decreasing this time of year, does not mean that the actual day to day temperature will decrease as well. The chart nicely shows that on average temperatures either go up, go down, or stay the same at roughly the same frequency no matter the month of the year. There are some subtle differences between the months and November is shown with the largest decrease in temperature frequencies, which is appropriate for today as highs will be lower than they were on Sunday.
