Posted: 22 Sep 2020 05:35 AM

Really warm temperatures have been a bit of a struggle this week due to the veil of smoke aloft over Iowa. You have likely noticed the red sunrises and sunsets along with the filtered sunshine during the day time. Warmer temperatures are in the forecast thanks to the help southerly breezes helping to bring warmer air into the state. The featured chart presents the number of September days each year that the high temperature was at least 75 degrees for Des Moines. It will be a bit backwards to be actively accumulating these days during the last half of the month, but the 2020 total should surpass the long term average around 17 days.
