Three Straight Sub 60

Posted: 10 Sep 2020 05:34 AM

The high temperature for Des Moines may stay below 60 degrees for a third straight day on Thursday and if it does, would make for the earliest such streak on record. The previous earliest streak was a three day stretch ending on 16 September 1903 and more recent ending on 17 September 2011. The featured chart presents the daily frequency of having a three day stretch with highs below 60. These events are very rare until we get well into October. The early fall / late summer chill these past few days has been remarkable and set numerous records for coldest daily high temperature. Thankfully some temperature moderation is in the forecast and we will be back to values closer to average this time of year!
