Five Degree Cold High Beat

High temperatures on Tuesday were certainly not what we would expect for the second week of September with much of Iowa in the lower 50s. Numerous record cold daily high temperatures were set with Des Moines besting their previous coldest high on 8 September by five degrees. The featured chart presents the margin by which a new daily record coldest high or warmest low beat the previous record at that date. The chart shows the most recent as large beat margin for cold high temperature being 18 April 2018 with a six degree margin. More record cold highs are expected today.
