Driest August

Posted: 01 Sep 2020 05:36 AM

The unofficial climate district totals computed by the IEM for August have southeast Iowa coming in as the driest on record since 1893. The featured map presents such ranks with 128 representing the driest. Most other districts within the western corn belt did not fare much better with only northeast and northcentral Iowa barely outside top ten driest for districts in Iowa. At this point, any rainfall is unlikely to help the corn crop and may only help late maturing soybeans. The Derecho and the drought have taken a considerable toll on Iowa's crops this year.
