Low below 60

Posted: 24 Jun 2020 03:34 AM

Temperatures have been pleasant this week with cool overnight lows below 60 degrees. The featured chart presents the monthly frequency of having such cool overnight temperatures. The percentiles are expressed with the percentage of years with a warmer than 60 value. The return interval is the number of years between such events. For most of the year, having a low temperature below 60 is what is expected each day. The lowest frequencies are found during the months of July and August. The return interval for June is about 0.1 years, so about 10 days per June per year. The moral of the plot is to enjoy these temperatures now as they are more fleeting during July.
