20-30 Days to get half inch

Posted: 22 Jun 2020 04:31 AM

The recent heavy rainfalls have been mostly missing the driest areas of the state. Based on NOAA MRMS estimates, the featured map displays the number of days you have to go back in time before accumulating at least 0.50" of rainfall. This map uses data up until 3 AM this morning. An area of bright green (20-30 days) is depicted just west of Des Moines with a broader area in the 10-20 day range over southwestern Iowa. There are more rainfall chances in the forecast, so we shall see if these driest areas can get some needed rainfall!
