Big June Rainfall

Posted: 10 Jun 2020 04:25 AM

The passing remnants of Tropical Storm Cristobal dumped significant rainfall over eastern Iowa on Tuesday. The featured map presents Iowa Flood Center precipitation estimates and shows a complex pattern of rainfall over the state. The rainfall east of Interstate 35 was from Cristobal and the western Iowa rainfall was from late evening thunderstorms. It is interesting to compare the two patterns as the pattern from Cristobal is clearly smoother as the precipitation shield size was much larger than the thunderstorm activity, which is more isolated in space.
