April Precip Hours

Posted: 23 Apr 2020 03:22 AM

The featured chart presents the total number of hourly reports per month that had measurable (at least 0.01 inch) precipitation based on available reports from the Ames Airport weather station. The average number is plotted along with the total for this year and largest total on record. This year's value is well below average even after extrapolating out the just over seven days to go. This April hasn't been all that wet yet, which is welcome for water soaked fields that could use dried out prior to planting. The forecast for the rest of the month currently keeps the majority of the heavy rainfall to our south along with mild temperatures.
