Wind Chill Headlines

Posted: 16 Jan 2020 05:34 AM

A brisk wind ushered in much colder air into the state overnight, dropping wind chill temperatures below -20 degrees Fahrenheit for some locations. The National Weather Service issued a Wind Chill Advisory to highlight the threat for locations like Mason City. The featured chart presents the frequency of having either a wind chill advisory or warning active at a given wind chill temperature for the site. The major caveat here is that these alerts have a duration requirement, so it is not a simple trigger once a site dips below the advisory threshold. Values can also fluctuate above and below an alert threshold over the duration of the alert. There is more cold like this in the forecast along with a major winter storm forecast for Friday into Saturday!
