Largest Departure of Year

Posted: 26 Dec 2019 06:14 AM

The weather on Christmas Day was quite the present for most of the state with record highs set from Waterloo to Burlington to Lamoni. Sadly, far northwestern Iowa was stuck in the fog for much of the day on the wrong side of a frontal boundary. For Des Moines, a new record high was set of 60 degrees and as shown by the featured chart, was tied with a January 5th warm day as the largest positive departure from average for the year. Temperatures will be much closer to average on Thursday and into the weekend.
