One Week to Go

Posted: 18 Dec 2019 05:37 AM

Christmas Day is just a week away and the snow free portions of Iowa wonder if there is still time for snow to come to make this year's Christmas "white". The featured chart looks into this question by plotting the frequency of when the snow cover on Christmas Day arrived. Rewording, for each white Christmas, how frequent was the daily snow cover prior to December 25th until the was no snow cover that year. So for today's date, less than 50% of the White Christmas events already had snow cover by this date. Rewording yet again, more than 50% of the events received their covering snow between now and Christmas Day. So statistically there is still hope, but the forecast is not as hopeful with days above freezing and near no precipitation chances.

Voting:
Good = 10
Bad = 2
