90s and Below Zero

Posted: 17 Dec 2019 05:30 AM

Monday was another chilly December day for Iowa with highs in the 20s for most of the state. Of course, it is the winter season so such cold temperatures should be expected. The featured chart presents the frequency of having an hourly air temperature for Des Moines within some given range of values. This plot is partitioned by week of the year. The chart legend presents the overall frequency for each range bin and it is interesting to notice how having a temperature at or above 90 degrees has a similar frequency to having a sub zero temperature. This plot perhaps gives some context to which temperatures are exceptional for the given time of year.
