Relative Humidities

Posted: 13 Dec 2019 05:35 AM

The relative humidity value is a tricky variable to interpret sometimes, but is widely reported to and used by the public. The value is a measure of the amount of water in the air at a given temperature and pressure. The value is dependent on those other values and thus the term "relative" applies. The featured chart shows a climatology of this variable based on Des Moines Airport data along with this year's observations. It is interesting to note that the daily average minimum and average average value are higher during December than any other time of year. While colder air holds less water, it is also difficult to completely vacate that limited capacity to achieve low relative humidities.
