Highs after first sub 46

Posted: 27 Sep 2019 07:53 AM

The featured chart takes a deep dive looking into high temperatures after the first fall sub 46 low temperature for Ames until the end of the calendar year. The top chart shows the maximum high temperature for the given period each year defined by the first sub 46 low and December 31st. The second chart plots that same max year each year against the date of the sub 46 low. The bottom chart totals up the number of days each year during that period that the high was at or above 80 degrees. Ames dropped to 45 Thursday morning and so we are on the clock for this chart. Almost all years have at least one more day at least in the 80s and the long term average has plenty of these days. The hope is for a nice fall season before winter arrives, but rain chances dominate the near term forecast.
