Sultry September Streaks

Posted: 26 Sep 2019 05:13 AM

Using available hourly observations from Des Moines, the featured chart displays the longest streaks of having the dew point at or above 65 degrees during September. This year's streak was the fourth longest on record and somewhat an outlier for occurring during the first half of the month. It is interesting to see streaks for three of the past five years appearing on this chart as it matches recent IEM Daily Feature plots showing recent Septembers being warmer than average. While humid conditions due remain in the near term forecast, air temperatures are expected to be cooler than they recently have been.
