2018 First Fall sub 32

Posted: 27 Aug 2019 05:34 AM

Temperatures have continued to struggle to high temperatures in the 70s for much of Iowa on Monday. An early freeze this year could create problems for late maturing agricultural crops. The featured map presents the first day last fall that the temperature was sub 32 degrees. Most of the state made it into the second week of October, which would definitely be desired again this year and perhaps even a bit later if possible. From a climatology perspective, the risk of an early frost starts mid September with an average first date around the first or second week of October.
