Daily Low Temp Consecutive Stats

Posted: 01 Jul 2019 10:34 PM

The heat knob finally got turned to the right recently with full blown summer-like weather present for Iowa. For Des Moines, the low temperature has been at least 70 degrees for the past five days. The featured chart presents stats showing the maximum and minimum temperature that the daily low was at least above or below over the given number of consecutive days. So for low temperature over 70 degrees, the longest stretch is at least 31 days! The chart is nicely able to normalize the seasonal extremes. For example, it is as exceptional to have five consecutive days with a low temperature above 80 as it is to have it below about -15. Forecast lows this week looks to be around 70 and higher, but perhaps back into the 60s for the upcoming weekend.
