Slow GDD Start to May

Posted: 14 May 2019 05:33 AM

Warm weather this May has been a struggle to come by. So it is no wonder that our growing degree day accumulation so far is running well below average. The featured chart shows an analysis for Iowa with much of the state about half of average accumulation. The good news is that warmer weather is on the way, but so are more chances of rainfall. Agricultural crop planting continues to be well behind average completion due to wet conditions and cool soil temperatures, and what has been planted is struggling due to lack of heat.
