May Slight Risks

Posted: 08 May 2019 05:34 AM

The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has a portion of southern Iowa under a Slight Risk of severe weather today. The featured map presents a heatmap of SPC Slight Risks during the month of May. The classic "Tornado Alley" shows the highest frequencies with values topping out above 7 days per year during May, which is about 25% of the days during the month! The severe weather pattern has been quite active lately and while Iowa has mostly missed out on the severe weather, we have been somewhat wet and definitely cool during this period.
