Limited Drought Nationwide

Posted: 03 May 2019 05:33 AM

The United States Drought Monitor released yesterday continued the trend this spring of decreasing drought coverage over the continental United States (CONUS). The featured chart presents the areal coverage for the CONUS since Jan 2016. This monitor has been around since the year 2000 and the current drought depiction is the least significant on record. For Iowa, we have been drought free since last fall, but some portions of the state have been starting to get a bit dry. There have been no impacts yet as we are still coming out of a very wet winter season and the is yet to be much plant activity creating a demand of soil water.
