Sunshine Differences

Posted: 21 Jun 2018 05:35 AM

The featured map presents the daily averaged amount of solar radiation since the first of May. The general pattern resembles the rainfall pattern so far this growing season with the wettest areas shown with the lowest radiation totals. Of course this makes intuitive sense that increased rainfall implies increased cloudiness and thus lowered radiation. The values presented are expressed in mega-joules per day, which is a measure of total energy received. While the values shown over Iowa do not seem that far apart ranging from 18 to 24, many plants that rely on the sun's energy for growth likely notice this difference.
