Recent Dry Januaries

Posted: 19 Jan 2018 05:35 AM

Significant snowfalls have been difficult to come by this winter and precipitation totals have been lacking thus far. The precipitation totals for January are currently on the low side of normal, which matches the recent trend of dry Januaries. The featured chart depicts the percentage of recent months that have seen precip totals above long term average for Ames. The values shown for January are the lowest on the chart, implying that our recent Januaries have tended to be dry. Having said that, a rather significant storm system is forecasted for this weekend, but the amount of precipitation it brings to various parts of the state remains an open question.
