Back below 50 again

Posted: 28 Apr 2016 05:34 AM

The featured chart displays the observed range of 4 inch depth soil temperatures for an ISU Soil Moisture site in Northwestern Iowa. The chilly and damp weather on Wednesday cooled the soil temperatures back below the key 50 degree level. Temperatures colder than that are not supportive of corn seed germination and growth. The warm and dry conditions prior allowed for a lot of Iowa's corn acres to get planted with the most recent estimate from USDA at 40% completion for the state.
