Recently rare warmth

Posted: 08 Jun 2011 05:54 AM

Temperatures again soared well into the 90s on Tuesday with a few sites hitting 100 degrees! It is remarkable to see how long it has been since we have seen temperatures this warm in Iowa. The featured chart displays yearly maximum temperatures for Mason City and yesterday's high of 99 is the warmest since 1995! If one considers that this is only June, one has to go back to 1988 for the previous warmer temperature. It is probably not a good thing when our current weather starts comparing with 1988, which was a drought year in the state.
