Soil temps below average

Posted: 12 May 2010 05:10 AM

Our recent stretch of cool weather has cooled off soils back below climatological average for the first time in the past few months. The featured graph from the Ames ISUAG site show daily average four inch depth soil temperatures around 50 degrees, which is an important numbers some crops care about for growth. Any planted soybean fields are definitely not enjoying this weather. To warm things back up, we need clear skies and warmer air temperatures. Both of which appear to be returning next week.
