Four inches of water

Posted: 21 Jan 2010 06:11 AM

The featured map is from the excellent NOAA Hydrologic Remote Sensing Center website showing modeled snow water equivalent from yesterday morning. Think of this as the depth of liquid water stored in the snow pack when melted. Even before up to an inch of freezing rain fell yesterday, this area was analyzed to have around four inches of water stored in the snow pack. The danger is flooding if this were to rapidly melt due to rainfall or warm weather.
