Soil temps and solar radiation for Ames ISUAG site
Our lack of recent rainfall and sunny days has helped to push 4 inch soil temperatures into the 90s, at least in Ames. You will want to click on the chart to get a legible view or generate your own here. The chart shows how soil temperatures have been warming during the past 60 days along with increasing solar input. It is kind of interesting to note that the climatological value has been decreasing for the past two weeks since the summer solstice, which is because the days are getting slightly shorter and the sun is hitting the ground less directly each day as its altitude decreases.
