SCAN Solar Rad and Soil Temps between 30 Apr and 3 May 2005.
With our recent stretch of cold weather, soil temperatures have cooled around 15 degrees. The plot shows soil temperatures and solar radiation from the SCAN site in Shagbark Hills. You can see that bright sunshine yesterday was able to quickly warm the ground all down to 20 inches! So once the more humid air mass arrives later this week to prevent large heat losses at night, soil temperatures will quickly return to values suitable for corn growth.
