I have already heard this theory joked about on the TV yesterday. 'Well, since we did not have summer in August, we might as well have it in September.' The first week of the new month certain looks to be summer like with highs in the upper 80s. While it may seem warm, highs in the upper 80s wouldn't be too far from climatology (shown). But for this year, it would be a heat wave.
